The Auenquelle or Au Fountain, constructed in 1832 and redesigned in 1981, is located between Neckardammweg and Neckartalstraße on the left side of the Neckar River. The aquifer is under artesian pressure and the water shooting to the surface is contained in a tall glass structure. Nearby, a more manageable flow is directed from a faucet into a small pool. This is a popular spring with superb, slightly sweet-tasting water, and is managed, tested and maintained by the city for use by the public.
