550 TDS (Total dissolved solids) – doesn’t say though what kind of solids are dissolved – are they nasty chemicals or just mineral salts?
We were a little dissapointed with this one. It was all closed off with gates and you couldn’t access the source of the spring. Also in a fairly built up part of town, so weren’t sure.
where was it I can not see it anywhere how did you find it I have connections to the council I might be able to get it sorted
It is locally known as Monks Cave. So if you do a google search for ‘Monks Cave Peterborough’ you will find it. There are plenty of photos and information on line.
The spring exits from a man made ‘cave’ that is gated and locked although occasionally I find the padlock smashed off and I can gain access.
The ‘cave’ used to be an entrance to a tunnel but the tunnel has been blocked off with stone walling, although the last time I was there, some stones had previously been removed and behind that stone wall is another wall made of concrete blocks. I believe, behind these blocks is the tunnel.
At my last visit the ‘cave’ was filled with litter and the site over grown with reeds and other vegetation. Also please be aware that the site is not suitable for disabled people as there is a bit of climbing to do and the ground is rough.
