This is called the Breck-Plankey Spring.  Here is a picture of the sign next to the spring.

Hmmm, I’m not sure what the directions listed here are supposed to lead to…the location of the Breck-Plankey Spring is actually on 3A just north of Crescent St. on the left, if you are traveling north, and just south of Deangelo Drive.

Maybe there is another spring a mile away from this one, but this is the spring that is most well known and maintained.

Does anyone know how often this spring is tested for its potability?   I have recently heard that the more alkaline the water is, the better it is for your health.  I dont know how to find out this information…..anyone?

Had water tested (August 2015) for my own piece of mind. Doctor’s Data test for Arsenic, Copper, Lead, Thallium, Uranium, Antimony, Barium, Beryllium, Cadmium, Chromium, Mercury, Nickel, Selenium, Aluminum, Iron, Manganese and Zinc were all within Acceptable levels. Fluoride was 0.05 parts per million (nice and low). pH was 7.2 (very slightly alkaline). State bacteria test showed no detectible levels of E.Coli, but did show Total Coliform bacteria at 6.3 MPN (Most probable number — meaning a statistical estimate of the number of coliform bacteria colonies.) They said it’s pretty low, but ideally like to see 0 Total Coliform like chlorinated (dead) water.

This spring is misidentified as others have noted. The location is roughly half a mile *south* of Skip’s, on the western side of 3-A. There was another such spring on the NE side of the pre-1956 3-A, roughly 150 yards south of the outlet of Newfound Lake. However, incessant vandalism forced its closure circa 1980. This was truly sad, for that water was sweeter than any I’ve ever had.

I was able to find it on Google Maps, actually has a picture of someone getting water. The GPS address is:
      43.603397, -71.745199

Its about 500 feet before Old Mill Properties Realestate.
