the pushpin is in the wrong spot on the map.  it should be located along rt55 within 5-6 miles from the WV border

  2. Evergreen says:

Where is the spring located? Is it marked? Visible from the road? Thanks!

  3. Jameslindag says:

This spring is 12 miles from I81 going west on 55. Take exit 296 and go west on 55 and it will be on your left side of the road inset into the mountain with a generous pull off area. There is a stone built structure with a plastic pipe and the water is cold and flowing fast. Taste and clarity are good.

  4. Susan says:

Anyone know history/safety of this source? thanks!

    • Tom says:

Susan, I was looking for same information.  Did you ever find out if the county or anyone tests (metals, pesticides, bacteria, etc.)?

      • Moho01 says:

i was there one day a few years ago when some guy from the state was testing this spring, he said it’s one of the best in the state of Va.

i have also tested this spring and TDS is usually from 4-12 ppm

this spring has been running for as long as i can remember, since i was a kid …i’m 47 now, this is the best spring water i’ve ever had

One of the best tasting cold spring water. Coming straight out of the mountain!

Thank your for the directions. The pin on the map puts you in the exact opposite direction. The directions from JamesLindag got me there very easily. The location would more accurately be called Star Tannery. It is just a little bit west of the Star Tannery post office on 55.

  7. DVP says:

Is the address – 341 Front Royal Road
Strasburg, VA 22657 correct? I checked that versus the long./lat. in the comments and they are about 20 minutes apart. Who is accurate?

Thank you for your question. We hope someone nearby comes through with the answer as we are unable to verify all of the springs that come to us in person and count on you all as a community to provide us with information. Thank you for support and if you go out on an adventure to verify we would love your findings 🙂

    Spring Directions from Winchester, VA:

    1) Take Middle Road, going south to 55 west.
    2) Turn right onto 55 west going towards West Virginia.
    3) Just before the West Virginia Boarder you will see the spring on your left.
    4) You will pass a Star Tannery and continue on some miles until you see a sign on your right called “Hunters Ridge”
    5) Slow down because right after the “Hunters Ridge” sign will be the spring on your left.
    6) Turn left into the gravel lot next to the spring.

The springs TDS is 14 most of the time for me.

I go there all the time. Email me is you have an questions

  9. Brian says:

So I went by today before going to the drive-in and grabbed a gallon of water. It’s very good and some locals stopped by to say they have been drinking it and loving it for awhile.
-Finding it is a bit of a chore and you have to be looking to the left for a pull off with an un-marked drive-way.

-Be aware, sometimes there are lines here.

-With all this being said, I really want to upload the 4 pictures I took showing the exact location. This spring was fast moving.

-Lastly, if you are filling large bottles, it might be smart to bring a flexible hose because there isn’t a ton of clearance from the pipe to the ground.

2844 waldernsville pike Rd is the address

  11. There are so many different address/directions to this spring how do we know which is correct?
Brian & Joe have good descriptions of directions, but not being from the area I don’t want to get lost!
Can someone help me out OR just let me know if those directions from Brian or Joe are accurate and helpful in finding the place!
    TIA 🙂

  12. Tara says:

My family and I went the other day and filled up some jugs to bring home. Taste great!!
I was wondering if anyone has tested lately???Any info would be appreciated!!!Thanks

  13. JOE says:

@TARA Yes I tested the water with a TDS (total disolved solids) meter I have. I tested it on Feb. 8th 2017. It read 12ppm and compare that with my tap water that reads 200ppm.

  14. Christopher B says:

I have been going to this spring for over 15 years and it’s amazing water. I have tested it numerous times with a TDS as well as a multi panel tests. I have had TDS readings from as low as 4 ppm to the highest of 17ppm and this just trace mineral content. Perfectly healthy. The multi panel tests for chemicals, pesticides, bacteria, and a bunch of other things. It tested completely clean on multiple occasions. Great spring.

    • Tabatha says:

I live really close to this Spring and have been going to it for a very long time and is why I don’t believe this but just wanted to confirm I was talking to a guy and he told me that 3 yrs ago he had the water tested from this Spring and it had E coli in it so I got online to find out wether its tested and found this site and see where you have tested the water… Please tell me what is your thoughts on this? Thank you for any info u may have

    • Lila says:

      Hi Christopher.

What instrument did you use to test for pesticides, bacteria, etc?

  15. Patrick says:

Jameslindags coordinates are exact, or you can click on Natasha’s link which brings it right up. Parking area is large, pvc pipes (2) are located about 50ft towards the mountain and are supported by a stone structure. Flow today was excellent and took no time to fill jugs.

  16. Carl says:

This is my second time at this spring and the water is amazing ✌️❤️☺️????????

  17. Steve says:

May 28, 2018–Delicious as always. TDS read 8 ppm, pH 7.1.

  18. Steve says:

July 28, 2018 TDS reading of 8 ppm. Same distinctive mineraly taste. Delicious. “Driveway” from route 55 to spring is quite muddy and rustic. Do us all a favor and don’t pull your vehicle up to the spring itself.

  19. Jason says:

Was just there to fill some 5 gal bottles
Water tastes great two pipe to use / fills in seconds
