Small natural spring flowing out of a hillside in the Ozark hills within the boundary of the Mark Twain National Forest, but just a 30 mile drive from Springfield, Missouri. The spring is a walk-in and can be hard to locate but is worth the effort for the superior water quality and scenery. Take Hwy 125 SE of Sparta, MO about 6 mi’s to Chadwick, turn L on Chadwick Rd. and go about 5 mi’s to a bridge that crosses Swan Creek, stay on the main road and continue for another 3 miles to a smaller creek crossing, in about another mile look for a road sign on the L that says Monarch Rd. The trailhead is 100 yds ahead on the R. You walk south down a trail that turns into a rocky gully and continues SE down to the creek. You’ll need to follow the creek a ways upstream and cross it a few times to get to the spring. There’s no tapped line and flow varies greatly, so be prepared to siphon or bail the water directly from the rocky bottom. Spring shows on DeLorme state map.
