Mountain Springs, Ricketts Glen State Park, PA
Description:
The spring has a great history of being a supplier of ice back in the day when the railroads still ran in this area . Ricketts Glen offers cool hiking trails plus about 13 waterfalls on an 8 mile trail . Lake Jean is a fabulous Lake at the top of the Mountain that has an island in the middle. It has a beach and offers swimming ,Kyaking , canoeing , camping etc….The surronding areas offer some great antique shops where I have purchased several glass 5 gallon jugs for water or wine . Summer or fall is the best time to visit here . There are plenty of road side vegie stands and yard sales . I grew in the valley below Mt. Springs and know the woods there fairly well . My husband and I would be more than happy be your guide should you ever have the opportunity to travel to this area.

I drove over an hour, one way, to get to this spring . . . only to discover that there is a white
pipe coming out of the rocks on the side of a very steep, narrow, and windy road (I grew up in the country and certainly would not call this a “highway”). . . with absolutely no safe place to park (or even walk) because of the narrowness of the road and the fact that the pipe is on a curve. So noooo water after all of that.
The temperature runs at 9.4C (thats 49F). The PH is low.
The water does have a notable after taste. I went on a saturday and there was no one else around filling up from this spout. Is this used as a drinking water, a medicinal water, or anything else?
there is a lot of fall out in this water that settles in the bottom of the glass containers. This might be a seepage spring.
My only concern here is they have allowed natural gas fracturing or “fracking” in the area. This could seriously compromise this water source in the future.
