TDS 198. The spring is located on US2 just outside of town, you can’t miss it. It will be on the right. Great tasting water. The sign says it is from a bore hole about a 1000 feet deep. They were drilling for iron ore about 100 years ago and it has been flowing ever since. A lot of people come here to fill up.
The spring is really hard to miss. It is right alongside Hwy. 2. Many locals get drinking water from the spring. There is also a lovely waterfall near the spring, on the same side of the road. Once things freeze over both are closed until things thaw out. There is another spring located inside the Fumee Natural Area located near the west interest. This is a great place to hike, x-country ski, run, etc. The spring inside Fumee would not work for big fill-ups, but it does run year round.
I was at this spring on Friday, 03/16/2012 and it was not running. They have a very nice setup with a place to park off road and it would be easy to fill containers but on this day there was no water.
I grew up around this area and as a kid I remember stopping here every time we drove by. The spring was MUCH larger then. I’m astounded as to how far it’s shrunk in the last 20 years or so.
Couldn’t find this one. Only able to find the other spring. GPS cordinates will not take you to the spring.
My wife and I saw this spring by chance and figured lets check it out. We topped off our water bottles and filled up a near empty 2.5 gallon spring water container we had. Great tasting water, easy to fill up containers via the pipe. A local said its better than his well water, he and many others fill,up all sorts of containers. There is a company that bottles and sells it too, but what a wonderful resource for the inhabitants of the area and for travelers that decide to stop. Next time we visit we plan to fill up some containers.
