It is a hotel built over a spring in 1867 that is supposed to be certified as being similar in mineral composition to the famous Carlsbad Springs in Germany. Their food is as SAD as it gets so I come prepared when I stay there. They have suites with kitchens.

I have had the food at the Boiler Room Restaurant (located in The Original Springs Hotel). It was great! hot! and the price was right. The mineral baths are incredible!

They used to sell the water in the 80's now they will give it to you for free if you bring jugs.

After reading some of your descriptions about other springs I would have thought you would do a better job of describing this wonderful, historic place. You didn't even really say anything about the spa-just that the water is “supposed” to be certified… Well at any time you can contact that hotel and they will send you the water report that shows the water has a very high mineral content and that it is comparable to the Carlsbad Springs. You could have also mentioned that this is the last operating mineral spring spa in Illinois. Oh wait, that would take some actual research though. The hotel has been there since the late 1800's. Some rooms could use a remodel but they just completely redid thier spa a couple of years ago (whirlpool tubs, steamrooms, dry heat rooms, large indoor pool). Just wanted to give some details that were left out.

Is the water good drinking water?  Is mineral water good or bad?  I am not so interested in bathing in water as I am in drinking it.

I wasted my time going here. Water nazis. I read some of the other reviews that said they’d give you water if you had jugs. I went in and asked the receptionist if they let people fill up from the spring and she said only if you are a guest, aka staying the night! So I offered to pay for the water, and told her we were traveling across the country and we had our own jug and she still said no, she could get in trouble for letting people get water!! Can you believe that… a constantly flowing water source that they hoard… even when money is offered! My boyfriend said he thought I was denied it was because I didn’t fit their “image” (I went into the hotel wearing jeans and a t-shirt) Being denied this spring water got me pretty upset for a while afterwards. I asked the woman if they treat the water with chlorine or anything and she said no, even though when I walked in the lobby there was an overwhelming stench of chlorine. These people should be shunned for denying people spring water. I just wanted to let people know not to get their hopes up about this place.

They ONLY allow guests that stay at the hotel to take up to 2 gallons with them when they leave. It’s ridiculous. Water hoarders!
