The spring was capped before I was born. There is a number “1908” hand etched in the original concrete all above the water pipe. This may be the year it was built. The water runs out of a pipe about 3′ above a concrete basin that drains into a city storm drain. This makes it easy to fill water containers. It is in a large concrete area(about 10’x10′) with 4′ tall concrete wall sides. It used to have a 3′ tall wood framed screen wire wall on top of the concrete wall and was covered by a roof, but the wood was removed several years ago. The original builders had a deposit container in the corner and asked for donations of ten cents per gallon on the honor system until the construction was paid off. Then they offered the water for free. People come from all over the city to get water. It flows freely non-stop year round.
