Description

This is free flowing and continuous flowing spring. It is maintained by the State of Minnesota. The spring has been plumbed with some pipes that direct the flow. The pipes are primitive but adequate for obtaining the water for use. The spring is surrounded by a simple park and is near to a river that flows near to it. The asphalt parking lot needs repair and has many pot holes. Be careful in driving into this small parking lot. The wayside rest is minimally maintained and has a steep unmarked driveway just off Highway 22. The park wayside rest is at the bottom of the valley between two hills that the highway passes by.

This wayside rest has a Memorial Marker located near to this spring. This Marker reads; Victory Highway in honor of the men and women who served in the World Wars I and II. Sponsored by the Mankato Garden Club and the American Legion with the corporation of the department of Highways. Centennial year 1958.

Nearest Address

This wayside rest is poorly marked.

Hours Spring is Open:

This spring is open all year and at all times of the day. In the winter the snow plows plow the snow off the road to the sides and block the wayside rest driveway making it impossible to access in the winter. A person could walk into the area and collect water from the spring if they parked along the side of the road. This is dangerous since the traffic goes 60 miles per hour or faster most times. People could park on the roads near to the park and walk a little to access the park and the water in the winter.

This spring is a dud. TDS was at 480 and it was not smelling or tasting good at all.

  2. Cblack says:

I drink this water from this spring all the time. I find it delicious Josh!

  3. I was super excited about this spring being so close to me! But unfortunately the water is yellow and smells kinda like a sewer:( It tested at 403 tds for me.

Just for your information as to why spring water is so very good for you to drink is it contains Methyl groups. Methy groups are a sticky substance and are the beginning of carbohydrate formation in nature. Methyl groups is what makes spring water spring water. It is carbon with three hydrogens attached. The methyl groups smell like sulfer and are deaging and detoxifying in the body. When you add methyl groups to distilled water the distilled water will then taste like spriing water. When the body runs bankrupt on methyl groups, we then start to get into trouble with heart diease, stroke and hormone problems. These are all age related and all are showing a lack of methly groups in the body. Add back the methyl groups and you can reverse the diease and you deage as well. This is what I drink all the time and no one can guress my age!

stopped at the spring today 6/15/13. The water was clear and had no smell, but it does have little iron/well water taste.

  6. Jodi says:

Has anyone been there this year (2014)? Debating making the trip from Sioux Falls.

  7. Chris Black says:

I drink from this spring all the time and I was just there getting my jar filled again. Yes it has iron in it but if you gather a few gallons the iron settles out to the bottom. Today when I was there it tasted very good, had no sulfur smell and was very cold.I drink this water daily. An added bonus- the wild flowers are in full bloom now and the air today was fragrant with a perfume that is intoxicating…there are tree mushrooms to see and many other things in the little park that this spring is part of. I visit here often….

I received a call today July 7th, 2014 for the reasons the spring on State highway 22 was closed down. This spring is called Veterans Memorial Spring and is located inside the wayside rest just off State Highway 22 driving south of Mankato Mn. The water had been tested annually and was found to be safe to drink each year. This well as it was called(Natural spring)puts out 1.3 million gallons of water annually.
    1. The Governor wants to conserve water and felt this was not being utilized enough by the general public.
    2. There is an obstruction 23 feet down that cannot be removed easily other than to redrill it. This is not an option and The State Of Minnesota will not be redrilling another one. It was very shallow “well” and the drain was plugged and the drain needed to be open.
    3. The University of Minnesota was out there too as others.
    4. They need a permit to have this in place and a permit was disallowed for this site and there are no plans for one to be obtained in the future ever.
    5. There are many who visit the area and who are vandalizing it always.
    6. Over the years the area has been slowly shutting down.
    7. The money needed to monitor this is also limited as all money is used for road construction.

The pipe was removed and the area cemented over.

  10. maria says:

Does anyone know if this spring is still there in 2016?

  11. Tanya Redfield says:

This whole area is now closed. You can’t even drive in any more. I have lived in this area since 1979 and visited this rest area…I never knew there was a spring there…no wonder if was not utilized! Sad. Wish it was still there and usable.
