This is the best tasting spring water so far excepting my old family’s farm spring. It is VERY easy to find but directions are wrong… it is a left turn, not a right turn onto Watering Tub road. About half a mile down the road on the left. Danny V please contact me at my email for updated pics and descriptions. Thank you so much for the site! What a brilliant asset! I went there today and there is no right hand turn after the bridge, only a left.
One thing that concerned me is that a NYS sign said the water is non potable. Should I be concerned drinking this water?

    • Jennifer says:

The official announcement is quoted below. Locals love the place. Ask them about the sign & you will get a 5 minute rant about how everyone has been drinking the water for decades with no issues. 🙂
      Here is the notice:
Based on the strong recommendation of the NYS Department of Health, the Town
of Horicon has posting the water source in Brant Lake known as the “Watering
Tub” as non-potable. Even though the water has always been tested regularly,
the Department of Health states that this does not eliminate all possibility of
contamination and its use by the public as a drinking water source is to be
discouraged. Therefore, the Watering Tub will be posted as non-potable based
on the recommendation of the NYS Department of Health and people should seek
an alternate source of drinking water.

P.S. Our family drinks the water every day for years. Luv it. 🙂

        • Gergely says:

Hello Jennifer, could you please let us know if the Watering Tub reopened after the cleaning. My family is coming for a vacation to Lake George in August and would like to explore nearby springs.

      • christine says:

I drive from Clifton Park NY (yes, passing Saratoga Springs) to fill up my bottles with this water…Have been drinking it and cooking with it for over a year now and we havent gotten sick. 🙂

  3. jim says:

Was there today had a sign closed for cleaning. any idea when it will be back up and running?

  4. Denise Hill says:

It says it’s closed for cleaning as of 4/17… Can you tell me when it will reopen….ty

  5. Rebecca says:

Delightful spring. Water is always excellent. I try to come early so there’s no wait.

  6. Christopher Olsen says:

Just stopped to fill up and was posted closed down failed.test ,???

    • Deborah says:

Very disappointed to stop by the beloved water tub and see the closed sign. Our family has been drinking water from this
source for over 50 years with no ill effects.
A local told me that after a routine cleaning the water tested contaminated. I don’t know about the water cleaning-testing procedure, but perhaps the water should be allowed to run for a considerable period of time before testing for contamination. Not rocket science. What’s really going on here? We want our spring water back!

    • G.Crossman says:

Called Town of Horicon, said closed indefinitely (for repairs?), 518-494-3647

    • CACarroll says:

      7/3/2017 still closed…or closed again?

    • Dave says:

100 mile round trip to find a dry spring. The NYS DOH has closed this treasure down. My grandparents lived into their 90’s and drank this water all their lives. I recently moved back up here and finally made the trip only to find that bureaucracy has once again taken a treasure away from the public.

    • Holly Greene says:

The Town of Horicon permanently closed Watering Tub with no plans to reopen or fix. Very sad news for all of us.

  7. Nancy Wright says:

Anyone know if it’s open this week yet?? Was closed stil last weekend. Thanks!

  8. Christine says:

The closing of this spring saddens me greatly. My boyfriend is 60 years old. He has vacationed in Brant Lake since he was a little kid and has been drinking this water ever since. He introduced me to the spring last summer and I’ve been drinking it ever since. Never a problem. Ever. I’ve since been on a mission to find a new spring. I’m near Saratoga, but none of that water even compares. I’ve been spoiled by the Watering Tub! Haha. I’m on my way now to check out the spring on Fishhouse Rd in Galway on the advice of a coworker. Let’s see what I find.

  9. Robert says:

The pipe that came out of the spring which provided the means for filling up is not up. The spring is still running but it’s inaccessible.

  11. Julie Grove says:

Drank this water for years despite the non-potable sign. Returned there at the beginning of Aug 2018 after being away almost a year. Sorry to report that the faucet that runs water into the beautiful stone tub has been removed and fresh spring water is no longer flowing there. What a loss. Heard it had to do with sickness from drinking the water. Would like details.

  12. Michael says:

    Spring is closed

There isnt even a pump anymore:(
