Belfountain Beauty Spring, Belfountain, Ontario, Canada  5/5 (1)

22 people follow this spring.

Description

It has a plastic spout, pouring out into a creek. It looks like it’s in good condition, not sure if someone is looking after it though. People in the area do drink from it (and me!).

From Mo Rosati: I returned here Nov 12, 09 to get some readings. All indicators tells me this water source is an artesian well also ( though it might be natural instead of man-made like Ancaster Arestian Well ). On the west side I measured TDS 334, pH 7.53, temp 8.4C on the east side I measured TDS 355, pH 7.38, temp 6.9C. Compare this to Ancaster TDS 190, pH 8.14. I took a water sample of Belfountain and it came back ZERO on both Total Coliform & E. Coli, same as the Ancaster source, so they are BOTH very clean ( more info: http://bit.ly/Es26R ). Compare this to TRUE natural spring eg. TDS: 23 Temp: 6.7 C pH: 5.58

Nearest Address

Winston Churchill Blvd. and Bush St., Belfountain, Ontario

Directions from Nearest Address

Once you get to the intersection of Winston Churchill and Bush, go NORTH (not south on the map below) and the road will go down a hill. There will be a guard rail on both sides. The spring is located on the left side (west) and at the end of the rail (to the north). Go down the hill off the road and she’s waiting for you! Enjoy!

  1. Hey Mo, I appreciate your postings on this site! Glad to have someone in the area dedicated to good spring water, as I am.
I was unaware of the east side flow. Did you get that tested for coliform + E. Coli as well? or just the west side. I had the west side tested about a year ago, turned out negative. Good spring source, a bit too high in minerals for everyday use for me though!

    Cheers! 🙂

    Kevin

  3. Hello all,
My family has been getting our drink water from this spring religiously since 2018, however, my dad has had it tested twice over the last few weeks to find some less than desirable results.
A few weeks ago the public health ontario results showed zero ecoli but 7 total coliforms which could indicate vegetation or environmental contamination. Possible animal bacteria but no fecal matter.
Most recently, a follow up test stated “overgrown vegetation, indicating high bacteria, unable to identify ecoli content. Not recommended for drinking”

Just wanted to share the information. Planning to retest the spring in the fall/winter…

  4. Visited last weekend, water is fresh tasting no sulfur smell. 4 locals also stopped by to fill up. Location is on Winston Churchill just north of 11/52.

  5. i’ve been using this spring water for years. today i went and there was a smell of sewage in the area so not sure if a spring water is affected. wonder if anyone plans to test the water again as last test someone did is from 2019. thanks in advance to anyone who plans on testing it.

  6. I go up here regularily from the Mississauga area if anyone ever wants to join me but I would also like to get it tested for piece of mind, although it does taste amazing! Does anyone know where I can get a sample tested??

    1. Hi Tamara… I was just looking around to find out who would test water in Toronto , didn`t really find anything except this test kit from a company called GTA water … It`s a well water kit that sells for $15.50 . Here`s a link to it

      http://www.gtawater.com/index.asp?pgid1=167&pgid2=&pid=2257&lg=0&gclid=CN-w-7ju47UCFe4-MgoduVUAsg

don`t know much about it, but it says that it tests for things like bacteria, copper, iron , lead, as well as different toxins like fertilizers and pesticides. So it`might be good enough just to make sure, that the water doesn`t have any high levels of those things… I can tell you that I`ve been drinking it for over a year now, and feel great, but a test would be good.

  7. Thanks Kevin, glad to help in any way. I'm very anxious to share quite a few more sources with everyone, should have everything done in the next couple days. This sample was from the West side, mostly likely the East side would be identical but I'll take a sample there next time. It's an interesting source, especially the total amount of flow considering both sides.

    1. Mo or Mr Toth (can’t find you first name!) have you done any testing since last February 2010? I would be interested in using the Belfountain spring if it tests clean.

  8. I have been a regular user of the Ancaster Wells Artesian Water for over 10 years now.
I am a chemical engineer by training with some technical knowledge of municipal water treatment. My wife is a chemist by profession. We use the water for all our drinking and cooking needs It is a very big comfort factor to have the analysis posted ( every 6 months) by the HRCA. The mineral content is similar to most commercial Ontario sourced bottled spring water. It is not as high in calcium and some minerals as Perrier , but rather average in mineral content when compared to popular brands like Nestle Pure Life and a few others. It is very safe bacteriologically as it comes from 120 m depth in a steel pipe and has never shown any significant bacteria count on any test in the last 10 years . It has kept well in 10 Lt and 4, 3 Lt clear bottled water containers in my cold room ( summer 18C, winter 12C ) for periods of up to 2 moths . I sterilise the containers with 65C hot water 3 times at home prior to filling , and rinse twice at the well prior to filling. Some people I spoke with at the well expressed concern about the Arsenic content of the water ( the only negative I can think of) but if you look at the posted analysis , it has always been below the Ont. Drinking water std. limit. I have learned about some people purposely taking arsenic at low levels daily to increase threir resistance to being poisoned in the 1500's-1700's with little effect , but more to the point, it is well known in the Horse Breeding Industry that treating the animals with low levels of Arsenic before they go on sale increses their value because small amounts of arsenic strengthens the horses nails, teeth, and makes the hair shinier and more resilient. ( from my university lectures in food engineering) . So I happily ingest the water and accept that my teeth and nails may improve slightly over time and my hair loss may be less severe thanx to the Arsenic. You may want to think twice before using the Belfountain Beauty Spring water unless you find someone to test it the same way as the Ancaster H2O is tested ( or who has had it tested ) . The Pictures on Photobucket show a standard plastic soil drainige pipe with what appears to be some algae ( ?) in the pipe ( I have not seen it myself yet , but will go up there in Nov/Dec) and the entire pipe seems to be embedded in some crushed ( porous !) rock fill around a road bed. The spring source may indeed be from a layer of the limestone bedrock but how far does the water travel outside of the actual source in an open plastic pipe that can be contaminated by local runoff/precipitation ( ?? watertight ? ) . It is always a concern to me if a spring is located very close to a well travelled roadway also. People bring pets with them to these places as well , and they sometimes do their business right near the wells . In my honest opinion , the Beauty Well may be drinkable most of the time , but it is questionable whether it may get contaminated from time to time from animal droppings or just dirty things getting blown into the pipe or dirty groundwater at times of heavy precipitation or snowmelt. I swithched to the Ancaster Well 10 years ago from the well at the side of HWy 26 near Elmvale just for that very reason ( farm runoff ?) . I never had the comfort factor of water testing and had no idea where thesource of that water actually was ( just a bent pipe sticking up from a roadside ditch) . On a final note , do not take it as a vote of confidence that locals dring the water , they also have no idea what they are consuming. There used to be a roadside spring in the middle of Mississauga , ( Mississauga Road south of Dundas St. at the pulloff in the curve) that drained the yards of some residential neighbourhood about 100ft above the spring ( lawn chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, fertilisers, bird and pet droppings etc..) which had people lining up with religious fervor day and night filling their containers and taking the water home like it was a gift from the gods ( water of life etc??) . It was a foul smelling , algefied brackish kind of groundlwater and they drank it and swore by it like it was the best water on earth , until the city politicians decided in their wisdom to pass a resolution to order the works department to dump several tonnes of gravel over the spring and bury it in the interest of public safety. For many years prior, there was a big warning sign at the spring about the dangers of drinking that water , but to no avail, it was busier than the checkout at your local Wal-Mart.

  10. We went here today…no weird sewage smell as someone earlier this year indicated. There were heaps of signs on both sides of the road “No Sewage Plant”. Water tasted great and very clean and cold/crisp, Yum! We’re boiling just to be on the safe side as someone earlier this month (Aug ’21) indicated that there were not the best results. Hoping it’s safe and stays as such.

    1. I went there today and couldnt find it … any more details you could share about finding it, I parked across the street and walked across to directly across from the intersection … there is a rocky section beyond a fence at the bottom of the hill … Help …

  11. I went there last week and collected a couple jugs. Water is crisp and very cold. Excellent! I did not test it though. But that’s all I’ve been drinking for a week and I’m fine! It was jard to find though. Once you spot it, it will be easier when you go back.

  12. We just went to the spring today and got a jug and glass containers filled. We were wondering if anyone has had the water tested lately?….I see that it was tested by a user in 2009, but the results could be drastically different now. Also, can anyone recommend where I can take a sample for testing, especially for coliform and arsenic? If there are long-term users of this spring, I’d like to hear your comments on your health in relation to this water. Thanks!

  13. Hello – I have tasted the water here and it is amazing! going to make the trip from Mississauga area today, but if anyone is interested in carpooling in the future, I have a large trunk and would be open to gas moeny in exchange 🙂 Take care!!

  14. Hi I am in Guelph and would love to catch a ride with someone that is going up here. I know how to get to Belfountain as I used to live nearby and drove to this neat little place to relax. I don’t have a car at the moment but would really appreciate if I could get some clean water for me and my family. I would help with gas. ivana.poslovno@gmail.com

  15. *UPDATE*
An even easier route for me is Mississauga Rd. all the way up to Bush St., Take a left there, then drive for a few km and take a right on winston churchill, drive north go down the valley right there and make a u turn and park on the west side, follow the little path to the water of life. It purs out of a pipe 24 hrs a day crystal clear and cold as heck! 🙂

  16. Just went up to Belfountain this morning, had trouble finding the place because I forgot to write down the directions…. DOH! But I managed to ask a couple locals and they were more than willing to help me get there. Best way like others have said if your coming from the south take Winston Churchill North follow it all the way up to Bush St. take a left, then the next right continuing on winston churchill, follow the road signs and its just up the road at the bottom of a little valley with a creek running next to it. Water was nice and cold, crystal clear and tasted great. Cant wait to drink some this week and make beer with rest next weekend!

  17. I am thinking of going to this spring, because I am currently going to an artisian well and I want to get spring water now. Looks like the comments so far aren't good. Can someone please tell me if it is worth switchig from ancaster springs to belfountain beauty springs? I am new to collecting water and I don't want to get sick or anything. Would really apreciate any kind of feed back. :):):) Andrea Martin

  18. This water source seems to be an artesian flow that originates under the road, pix / vids here: http://bit.ly/1qQ2Yf Everyone collect water from the west side ( left side headed north, 8 Celsius ) , but there is an identical flow directly across the street on the east side ( right side headed north, 7.2 Celsius ), perhaps this side is closer to the source?

    1. Hi Mo,
I was in that area yesterday, looking for the spring.
There is a bridge over a creek in Belfountain and right next the bridge
there is some sort of conservation park that was closed. My guess is
that it may be inside of the park area?
Could you please tell me the exact location of this spring?

  19. I got water from this spring last week and found the TDS too high. After just a couple minutes of boiling there was lots of white film left in the pot. Also visible while boiling.

    1. I have been getting water here for about a month, I also boil what I need for tea or coffee in my french press and no white film at all. Also while I have a good well at home our well is higher in minerals than I prefer. Water from this source is all I use now for drinking. Also there are no golf courses nearby which could contaminate the ground water with toxins that are used to keep the grounds green and weed free, something to think about.

      1. Hi, do you use this water everyday? I mean drinking as well as like washing your face etc? Is it safe for everyday use, also what about the spring water sold in the stores, is it really that bad?

          1. Hi Bluntstar,
I was in that area yesterday, looking for the spring. There is a bridge over a creek in Belfountain and right next the bridge there is some sort of conservation park that was closed. My guess is that it may be inside of the park area?
Could you please tell me the exact location of this spring?

          2. Hello Ursa M.
I think you are looking in the wrong place . The spring talked about here is on Winston CHurchil north of Bush St. . When you’re driving on Winston CH and reach Bush st . you make a Left and than the next right . and you’re back on Winston Churchil.   after that you will be going down hill towards a Creek over the bridge with railings on both side , keep going just  till the metal railings end and there is garbage cans on the right side as well as signs on both sides saying that the water is not tested by the city.  There are springs on both sides . I always make a u turn right away and use the spring on that side going back towards Bush st.  , there’s place to park for 2-3 cars there … you should hear the spring once you get out of the car ,  good luck .. enjoy .

  20. Spring is not at the location it says. Had fun trying to find the place, lol
There’s 2 intersections. 1 going south and just further down from location that’s marked, there’s an intersection going north. You know it’s the right one when you see a wooded area on both sides with a guard rail on either side. It’s at the far end of rails and there’s well at both sides. Ice cold and I m not sure if it’s clean. Don t have much experience with spring water. I m bringing a bottle home to the wife. She’ll know, lol

  21. Has anyone been to the spring recently? I just went this morning for the first time. Just unsure if the water has been tested recently.

  22. For the past several months I have been coming to this spring and enjoying the water.

But, since collecting water yesterday (on July 27th 2018) and drinking it today (July 28th), my friend and I have both experienced symptoms of cramping in our lower bellies.

After drinking the water this morning, within 10-15mins I experienced noticeable and uncomfortable cramping which lasted about 20mins until it went away.

I am led to believe that the water has become slightly contaminated.

If anybody is able to do some testing on this particular spring, it would greatly appreciated. I will also be looking into this matter myself.

  23. My Husband and I found out about this spring only in May 2017. Since then we are using it regularly. We love it, taste, crispiness etc. We coming there from Caledon, every 2-3 weeks. Anyone knows what is happening during winter months? Does it freeze? Thank you everyone for comments – very helpful.

  24. Its good to read the comments to find it. Its not on the corner of Bush st and Winston Churchill where some people look for it. Its on Winston Churchill, 500 m north of Bush st. on both sides of the road. Is there a way to verify it is a spring water? Water is coming from pipes (culverts?) under the road which looks like it was installed to prevent water from creeks to flow on the road.

  25. I am a Belfountain spring drinker from Brampton. been getting this spring water – on & off – for quite a few years as do other people from Caledon we know. Since fall 2016 am getting it regularly in various larger & smaller glass & plastic containers. It’s beautiful, good, clear, refreshing water every season. Appreciate Jim’s Sept.2014 & March 2015 comments re. testing this water. Often meet other users from all kinds of places (Georgetown, Mississauga, Brampton, etc.) getting this water for a longer or shorter time – all very pleased with it, as my wife & I am.
Our supply lasts about 1 month -getting ready to get another supply this week. We use it for drinking & cooking.

  26. Gathered about 25L from here this past weekend. Have been drinking it for about a week now and feel fine. The water tastes delicious and refreshing.

I’d love to know the history of how this spring came about, who set it up, was the original purpose for drinking, etc. I tried finding more information but the internet doesn’t appear to have much.

    1. I have been drinking water from this spring since 1980. I take extra bottles with me whenever I travel anywhere near there. Divine water, no wonder Nestles’ is trying to take it all.

  27. Just thought I’d pop in to say that I visited this spring on Sunday (Mar 20) and the TDS reading was 348 from west side. Water was cold and clear and tasted good.

  28. I just wanted to send my grateful thanks for doing this testing Jim, both the MMS test and the bacteria test. It’s been a few years since I’ve been at this spring but am heading there tomorrow. I’ve always loved this water and am really excited to get a taste of it again, and to know it is well within safety limits of heavy metal and free of bacteria, that couldn’t be better news. You’ve done all of us who love this water a big favour. So, with gratitude, thank you Jim!

  29. Well, in reference to metals, minerals and salts (MMS), it appears this water is very safe to drink. The only exceedances were in sodium and total water hardness (calcium carbonate). The guide limit for sodium is 20 mg/L and this water tested at 30.9. The guide limit for calcium carbonate is 80-100 mg/L and this water tested at 254. However, some may regard the extra calcium as a dietary benefit. Regarding the most worrisome heavy metals (Aluminum, Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Copper, Lead, Mercury, Nickel, Selenium, Thallium, Uranium and Zinc), they were all well below the Guideline/Standard of Ontario Regulation 169/03. I may decide to test for VOCs at a later date. But in the meantime, happy drinking folks.

  30. Hi Jess,
Thanks for the offer. I’ve settled on AGAT Labs in Mississauga since it is close and therefore no shipping fees are required. March is a very busy month for me but my plan is to pick up the testing bottles this Monday Mar 16 and hopefully get them filled and submitted for testing on Mar 19 or 20. Cost for the MMS test is $250 plus HST plus $2 disposal fee per sample. I really have no choice here since my son and I as well as my girlfriend and her daughter are planning on using this as our sole drinking source.

    1. Hi Dee,
My contact at Toronto Water says that they can’t do any private testing and that their expertise lies with Lake Ontario water rather than rural ground water. He referred me to Maxxam Labs in Mississauga but they told me they no longer do private testing. They referred me to the Ontario Ground Water Association. It turns out they do test private water samples but the costs are significant. They are as follows:
      Metals, minerals & salts (MMS) – $132
      Fuels – $185
      Solvents – $110
      Pesticides – $275
There is also a $1.75 disposal fee per sample, a $25 shipping fee and $50 admin fee. And of course HST on everything.
From what I gather, if the source here is indeed an artesian well, the MMS test would be most applicable to this type of water supply. Here’s what they say about it…
“Detailed general chemistry package; all wells should be screened for these impurities. This package tests more than 40 parameters. It is a good general chemistry water testing package providing well owners with a detailed understanding of impurities that may be in their water because of rock or surrounding land uses. It includes hardness, iron and heavy metals.”
So there you have it. Wouldn’t it be great if all the users could pool together and spring for the test costs? (Puns intended)

  31. I took a sample on Sep 3, 2014 and submitted it to the Public Health Ontario lab in Hamilton. It was analyzed on Sep 4, read on Sep 5, and came back zero Coliform and zero E. coli. I’m going to see if I can get it tested for chemical impurities as well.

  32. I found the spring easily following the directions. Down the hill at the end of the bridge over a creek. On both sides there’re pipes. On the left, easier access beside parking space for two cars.

I’ve run into 3 other people at the spring, drinking from it for a while. Water taste clean to me.

  33. @Heidi … LoL.. I too drove 45 mins to get there only to waste almost a tank of gas trying to find this spring, I didn’t have no luck finding it, was going crazy.. but follow the directions on here above

  34. Hi there, I’m new to town and went to trying find this spring, but I couldn’t for the life of me find it. I don’t know if I’m in the wrong area, or if I’m completely blind. I parked by the guard real and I checked both the north and south side of the water on both the east and west sides of the road and I couldn’t find anything. It seemed very overgrown and muddy. It didn’t look like anyone has been there. Maybe I’m not going far enough? It’s Winston Churchhill N. Of Bush St. Down the little hill by the creek?

  35. Hi, my family and I have been drinking from this spring for a couple years now. I would like to retest it as I have a newborn that I am nursing now and want to just check the levels again, we went and got some water today and noticed that the water was flowing rather strong. Plus the water has many more bubbles then previously. Where do I get a test kit?
    Thanks
    Lindsay

How to Collect Spring Water

Drinking pure spring water is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Our bodies are over 99% water at the molecular level, so water affects every aspect of our biology. Yet, not all water is created equal. Almost all the bottled spring water available is pasteurized for shelf stability, which neutralizes many of the powerful health benefits such as increased hydrogen, healthy probiotics, and crystalline structure. For more about why unprocessed spring water is the best water to drink, read this.

The best way to guarantee you are getting real unprocessed spring water is to collect it yourself. This is a short and simple guide filled with information about how to gather spring water. We will cover how to find a spring, how to collect the water, how to honor the spring, how to store the water properly and other tips.

FindASpring.org is the best resource for locating a spring near you. However, not all springs are on the map. First, check the map to see if there is a spring in your local area. If there is, look at the reviews and comments. Has anyone shared helpful information about flow rate or posted a water test result? Is the spring in a pristine area? Do a bit of research and make sure the spring is safe to drink from. If you have any doubt about the purity, don’t risk it and get a water test, HERE. If you don’t see a spring on the map in your area, there still might be some that aren’t listed yet. First, ask the older generation who have lived in your area a long time if they know. You can also ask people in your community who might already get spring water such as people at a health food store or at a farmers market. Another great option is to view A US forest service map, where many springs have been marked. You can view these maps through the Gaia GPS or All Trails hiking apps on your phone. The map overlay you want is USGS Topo. Not all are easily accessible or ideal for drinking, but some are and it can be a fun adventure to find them. We have found over half a dozen great springs this way.

Once you’ve found your spring, figure out how you are going to gather the water. Is it right on the side of the road and easy to access or do you have to hike to it? We recommend storing spring water in glass instead of plastic to preserve the purity of the water. It is better for the environment, your body, and the water. Even BPA free plastic has toxic chemicals that can leach into water and cause health issues. If you do want to use plastic for safety reasons when filling at the spring, we recommend transferring the water to glass as soon as possible. FindASpring is sponsored by Alive Waters, which offers beautiful reusable glass. They have a 2.5 gallon option, which is a convenient size for carrying that isn’t too heavy. They also sell handles that you can use to transport the jugs even more easily. If you have to hike to access the spring, we recommend putting the water jugs into an extra large backpack to hike the water out with ease. We use Osprey packs that hold 2 jugs each. You can also use a wheelbarrow or even a stroller depending on how easy a walk it is.

Filling 2.5 Gallon Alive Waters Jug

When you get to the spring, remember to first give back before you take. Springs are considered sacred in indigenous cultures around the world for their life giving water and also as a connection to the inner earth. A powerful and simple way to give back is to clean up. Is there any trash that needs to be collected? Could you move any dead leaves or sticks to improve the flow rate? Show up in service. Some other wonderful ways to give is with a moment of expressing verbal gratitude, singing songs to the water, offering the water an ethically sourced crystal, a feather, or some other physical gift. Flowers are a popular and beautiful thing to offer, but please be careful to source organic ones as most flowers from the store are sprayed with pesticides and can be toxic to put near a spring. Also, flowers can attract bugs as they decay, so it can be best to offer them to the flowing water directly or a little downstream from the spring head.

When gathering the water, fill the jug as close to the spring head as possible, never gather downstream. Be very careful as wet glass is extremely slippery. Make sure the lid is securely fastened. When transporting the spring water home, the jugs can sometimes slide around the car. Secure them in place or wrap them with towels or something so they don’t crash into each other.

How you store your spring water is essential. It is not pasteurized like spring water from the store, so it will start growing algae if left in direct sunlight. This is good because it means it’s alive! If the water you drink can’t even support the most basic life forms, how do you think it will support your body? Store your water in a cool, dark place such as a dark corner, pantry or closet. The fridge is ideal if you have room. Some people prefer to filter their water through a Berkey filter before drinking, but if the spring is pure, it’s not necessary. We drink our spring water completely unfiltered.

How long the water stays good for depends on how cold a temperature it’s stored at. Spring water is best fresh. We personally do not prefer to drink spring water past 2 weeks old. However, we know other people that will drink it at a month old. It’s great to get in a rhythm where you know how long the water lasts you and put your collection day on the calendar in advance.

I believe that water is calling us to reconnect with her in the deepest way, to gather our own water. Just like our ancestors did. Our ancestors didn’t have fancy water machines. They also didn’t create villages or settle where there was no water. Water was revered as the center of the community and the nodal point around which life could spiral out and take root.

Here’s to restoring the sacred connection with the waters of life.
