  1. Any updates on this spring? Looks like a while since last posting activity, but I’ve been getting water here for about a year. Went a week ago and it was flowing fast – went today and it was not running.

          1. I drive 40 minutes to get this water. If you are closer or happen to check on in soon, can you let me know if it’s flowing again. I will do the same if I get there before you. This has happened before. According to an older post about 10 months ago someone said it was not flowing so it should flow again sometime.

  2. My husband found it yesterday.  He said it was flowing freely. He ran into a local filling up his water bottle. The man told him he drinks it all the time.

He brought home a jug — it is cold, crystal clear, and delicious!  No noticible smell or taste, just tastes like what you would expect pure, fresh living water to taste like!

  3. I wonder about this spring.. it’s in Amish country, thus AGRICULTURE territory.. there has GOT to be some form of “run off” from the farming, manore, and pesticides…

  4. Just got water from here today, first time trying fresh spring water. Absolutely amazing! The flow was fast and overflows into a small concrete basin. The parking is right off the road and easy to access with enough room for one car. Will definitely be returning on the regular.

  5. 12/07/23
I visited this spring during the day and there was NO RUNNING WATER. The basin was wet though so it may have been active recently but not today. Will check back eventually..

  6. Hello For the last 2 months this spring has been off any idea when and why it is not running!! In dire need of fresh clean spring water Been going there for years and buying spring water by the gallon is getting awful expensive

    1. Spring has been running again for over a year but after yesterdays fill – I noticed debris floating in the water. Is not noticeable at first. I did notice the water looking a little gray as it filled my bottles yesterday. You may want to run it through a filter but I don’t have any so I won’t be drinking. I’ll try again soon.

  7. Could be a blessing that no water from this spring. It was found to be contaminated at one time. See earlier post. Thanks to all who come here to communicate. Hope I will find this spring healthy to drink again one day soon.

  8. This spring has been flowing all spring and summer, except it had been blocked off (zero flow) yesterday – Aug 21, 2016 – I understand the owners of the land up on the hill sometimes block it off when doing construction, so that the water doesn’t come out churned up – I don’t know if that’s the reason this time, and I’d like to know how long it’ll be unavailable – the water tastes wonderful – I went home thirsty and a little sad!

    1. Hi Spring Seekers!

Sorry to say we don’t have any better info than you at the moment. We’re based in Vancouver BC for the time being, so we rely heavily on you users to help us and the community keep things updated.

We can try and help however you think we can from afar!
      Thanks

  9. I have been by the spring twice in past few weeks. It is not producing any water that I can see. Maybe I’m missing something, but I’ve gotta find a new spring I think.

  10. Oh such a disappointment. I ran into an amish fellow today while harvesting water from here, we get 30-40gals at a time, have been for over a year, and he’s the one who told me about possible bacteria present; then I came here to look, and low and behold. For now we’ll filter it through our AquaRain until it’s gone.

Thank you AMY for giving out this info, and also can you please let me know if you found out anything about the coatesville spring’s quality? As this is even closer for us.
If not we’re going to Denver or Barto spring -the Barto one looks very good based off the comments! Looking forward to trying it.

    1. Hi everyone, I have been drinking RO water, and find that it does not have minerals that we need to properly hydrate. I would love to return to this spring. I would like to know if it is free of chloroform. It is the only spring close enough to be worth the trip. Thanks

      1. Well, It’s almost a year since I last posted here and no-one else has said or updated anything about the water from this spring. I am continuing to drink Yoder’s RO water and eating fruits, vegetables, and juice to get the striped minerals from this water. I think the possibility of lead and nitrates in all other water may be prohibitive to switch to. I hope more folks would post here as to their choice of drinking water, and any new info. on this spring.

  11. That’s a shame about the coliform, I haven’t visited this spring lately because I am so in love with the MiddleCreek Spring in Denver, PA. It’s worth the drive! The Hibernia Road, Coatesville Spring is in someones front yard with no pull off, anyone know if the owner allows for public use?

  12. It was recommended by Cedar Grove Environmental to have water tested periodically, perhaps in 3 months, retest. Yes, I agree, someone should post coliform alert at spring. I noticed there is a new spring listed in Coatesville on Hibernia Road. I will have water tested and post results.

    1. Well, I looked up coliform found in drinking water and it seems that we should not be drinking it. Boiling water first is recommended. There is a store near by that sells a gallon for 25 cents. Yoders is on rt. 23 and I go shopping there anyway. Thank you Amy for posting results. I wonder if this result is permanent?

  13. Hi Dennis, Jim and those who are using this spring for their water needs …… I had water tested 10/8 for bacteria and PH. COLIFORM BACTERIA IS PRESENT IN WATER! PH is 5. So sad to report this news! I will have the results for other bacteria in water early next week.

  14. Amy, please let us know if you tested the water. Thank you if you took the time to do so. It is greatly appreciated. I have been drinking only this water for 7 months and feel fine as far as bacteria content is concerned. I see in the heading of this web site it shows the location of the spring on the right side going north. It is in fact on the left. Thanks to all who post here for informing others, blessings to all.

  15. Filled up a glass jug today. Measured 50 TDS, but couldn’t get an accurate PH level. Using the glass jug as a magnify glass you could barely make out a very very few dust like size particles. Taste great, and is far enough up the hill range that I wouldn’t be to worried about Amish farm runoff.

  16. Filled my bottles yesterday, great flow. Wondering about TDS, PH and bacteria ….. heard today that spring has high bacteria content. Has anyone tested lately? I may bring water sample to lab for testing. It would be nice to know what we’re drinking!

  17. Was there Friday, great flow, really fast. Water tastes great, though has a little metallic taste, also some particles you can see in the jug. But overall great water, thanks for the website. Thank G-D for mother nature!

How to Collect Spring Water

Drinking pure spring water is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Our bodies are over 99% water at the molecular level, so water affects every aspect of our biology. Yet, not all water is created equal. Almost all the bottled spring water available is pasteurized for shelf stability, which neutralizes many of the powerful health benefits such as increased hydrogen, healthy probiotics, and crystalline structure. For more about why unprocessed spring water is the best water to drink, read this.

The best way to guarantee you are getting real unprocessed spring water is to collect it yourself. This is a short and simple guide filled with information about how to gather spring water. We will cover how to find a spring, how to collect the water, how to honor the spring, how to store the water properly and other tips.

FindASpring.org is the best resource for locating a spring near you. However, not all springs are on the map. First, check the map to see if there is a spring in your local area. If there is, look at the reviews and comments. Has anyone shared helpful information about flow rate or posted a water test result? Is the spring in a pristine area? Do a bit of research and make sure the spring is safe to drink from. If you have any doubt about the purity, don’t risk it and get a water test, HERE. If you don’t see a spring on the map in your area, there still might be some that aren’t listed yet. First, ask the older generation who have lived in your area a long time if they know. You can also ask people in your community who might already get spring water such as people at a health food store or at a farmers market. Another great option is to view A US forest service map, where many springs have been marked. You can view these maps through the Gaia GPS or All Trails hiking apps on your phone. The map overlay you want is USGS Topo. Not all are easily accessible or ideal for drinking, but some are and it can be a fun adventure to find them. We have found over half a dozen great springs this way.

Once you’ve found your spring, figure out how you are going to gather the water. Is it right on the side of the road and easy to access or do you have to hike to it? We recommend storing spring water in glass instead of plastic to preserve the purity of the water. It is better for the environment, your body, and the water. Even BPA free plastic has toxic chemicals that can leach into water and cause health issues. If you do want to use plastic for safety reasons when filling at the spring, we recommend transferring the water to glass as soon as possible. FindASpring is sponsored by Alive Waters, which offers beautiful reusable glass. They have a 2.5 gallon option, which is a convenient size for carrying that isn’t too heavy. They also sell handles that you can use to transport the jugs even more easily. If you have to hike to access the spring, we recommend putting the water jugs into an extra large backpack to hike the water out with ease. We use Osprey packs that hold 2 jugs each. You can also use a wheelbarrow or even a stroller depending on how easy a walk it is.

When you get to the spring, remember to first give back before you take. Springs are considered sacred in indigenous cultures around the world for their life giving water and also as a connection to the inner earth. A powerful and simple way to give back is to clean up. Is there any trash that needs to be collected? Could you move any dead leaves or sticks to improve the flow rate? Show up in service. Some other wonderful ways to give is with a moment of expressing verbal gratitude, singing songs to the water, offering the water an ethically sourced crystal, a feather, or some other physical gift. Flowers are a popular and beautiful thing to offer, but please be careful to source organic ones as most flowers from the store are sprayed with pesticides and can be toxic to put near a spring. Also, flowers can attract bugs as they decay, so it can be best to offer them to the flowing water directly or a little downstream from the spring head.

When gathering the water, fill the jug as close to the spring head as possible, never gather downstream. Be very careful as wet glass is extremely slippery. Make sure the lid is securely fastened. When transporting the spring water home, the jugs can sometimes slide around the car. Secure them in place or wrap them with towels or something so they don’t crash into each other.

How you store your spring water is essential. It is not pasteurized like spring water from the store, so it will start growing algae if left in direct sunlight. This is good because it means it’s alive! If the water you drink can’t even support the most basic life forms, how do you think it will support your body? Store your water in a cool, dark place such as a dark corner, pantry or closet. The fridge is ideal if you have room. Some people prefer to filter their water through a Berkey filter before drinking, but if the spring is pure, it’s not necessary. We drink our spring water completely unfiltered.

How long the water stays good for depends on how cold a temperature it’s stored at. Spring water is best fresh. We personally do not prefer to drink spring water past 2 weeks old. However, we know other people that will drink it at a month old. It’s great to get in a rhythm where you know how long the water lasts you and put your collection day on the calendar in advance.

I believe that water is calling us to reconnect with her in the deepest way, to gather our own water. Just like our ancestors did. Our ancestors didn’t have fancy water machines. They also didn’t create villages or settle where there was no water. Water was revered as the center of the community and the nodal point around which life could spiral out and take root.

Here’s to restoring the sacred connection with the waters of life.
